Week 6, lesson 4 Phoneme "oi" and Grapheme "oi" - Phonics Phase 3 - Lesson plan
English Resource Description
In the fourth lesson of Week 6 during Phonics Phase 3, the objective is to introduce the phoneme /oi/ and its corresponding grapheme
The teaching segment of the lesson involves a story that features the phoneme /oi/, with the character Oyster Feeling Moister expressing her dislike for washing by exclaiming /oi/ /oi/ /oi/ each time her mother turns on the shower. To further engage the students, they are encouraged to mimic the sound by making clam shell hands, closing them, and shouting /oi/. This multisensory approach aids in phoneme recognition and retention. In the practise part of the lesson, students learn how to write the grapheme by finger writing in the air and on a friend's back, enhancing their understanding through kinaesthetic learning. The 'Sound Jump' game then gets the children actively listening for the /oi/ sound in various words, jumping up when they hear it. The application of the lesson involves decoding phrases and using YES/NO cards to demonstrate comprehension, while extension activities like playdough and sand writing offer additional tactile experiences to consolidate learning.
